Highlights On Tap

“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is beauty, admire it. Life is bliss, taste it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is too precious, do not destroy it. Life is life, fight for it.”
-Mother Theresa

Though the Hope On Tap fund-raiser might not have earned any of us Mother Theresa status, it did show that we were willing to answer her challenge with an emphatic, “Okay then, we will!” The result: a successful event replete with contagious celebration and goodwill.

As simple as it may seem conceptually, we all know showing up for things still takes effort. By doing so, you demonstrated to the girls that they are worth it. This is a brand new concept for most of them. When they see the pictures from the event and the signs and the people in attendance, they will have that much more comprehension of what it means to be valued. “All of these people showed up for us?” They will ask in disbelief. It may take a while, but eventually their confusion will be replaced by, “Wow, all of these people showed up for us!” And they will then make the same effort to show up for someone else.

As the Founder of Purse of Hope, I had a unique perspective that night. With our girls being on the other side of the world, I was the privileged recipient of your efforts by proxy. My heart was flooded by the overall vibe of enthusiasm, compassion, generosity and the earnest desire to affect real change. Because I know both sides, I wanted to scream, “It will! It really will affect change, you guys!” But we didn’t have a mic. So let me tell you now—it will!

Again, I thank you for believing in these girls. They already know that life is a challenge. Together, we are giving them the opportunity to see that it is also a dream and they are allowed to realize it.

We hope to see you at the next one.
