Purse of Hope Has a New Name!

Purse of Hope has a new name and a whole new look. Check out our new website here: Kwagala Project

We’re still the same team working toward the same goals; we’ve just updated our name and our look to better reflect who we are today.

“Kwagala” in Lugandan, means ‘love’ or ‘to love’, which seemed like the perfect descriptor for all that we do. Love, after all, underlies all of the giving, cheerleading, rejoicing and working together that happens among our U.S. supporters, our staff overseas and our girls.

If you’d like to know more about the history of the original name and the decision to make a change, you can read all about it in “From Purse of Hope to Kwagala Project,” the first post on our new Kwagala Project blog. School Visit

Last week Uncle Kevin, Leigh, Reza, Katie, Ali and Kristin visited three of the Total Impact girls at their private school. The Senior 4 students just started taking their final exams that morning – a process that can continue for up to two weeks depending on the course load. During a break, the headmaster granted us a few minutes to visit the classrooms and wish the students luck. Winnie, Scovia, and Prossy were certainly happy to see us and show off their school but made sure to mention they didn’t need any luck. They studied hard, were ready, and confident they would do well on each exam.

So are we, girls, and can’t wait to hear the results!

Scovia has been living in the Total Impact House for a little over a year. She’s worked extremely hard and continues to make great strides towards overcoming her painful past. Because of the counseling and love she’s received at Total Impact House, Scovia wants to be a social worker – rescuing kids from the same plight. And because of her bravery, she already is.

Study Habits

Since the beginning of the school term in January I’ve noticed monumental change in the girls’ study habits and excitement for school. Yesterday I was chatting with them and asked if they could describe what caused the great change.

Juliet shared with me that the reality of hope is responsible for the transformation. She explained that over the course of their first year at the Total Impact House, she and the other girls spent a lot of time thinking about the past and had a difficult time believing that there was any real hope for their future.

Now, she told me, they know that God has a plan for them. They have experienced love and support and encouragement and know that there are people all over the world who believe in them and want them to succeed. They believe that they will have lives full of meaning and won’t ever have to go back to the way life was before.

Juliet and the others are now giving school their all. Some have even been chosen for leadership positions in their classes. To me, this story is a lesson on love. Love must be patient. We can’t expect change to happen over night, but must understand that change takes time, and a great amount of love.

Allow me to introduce Prossy. She’s one of the newest girls to be welcomed into the Total Impact House.

I’ll have the honor of meeting Prossy in just a few weeks, and together we’ll be sure to provide a proper introduction! What do I know so far? She loves sports, she is funny, and she cannot believe how lucky she is to be living in this house!

Hi Mummy!

How are you doing over there? Back wise things are okey, from the exception of missing your presence only. I am so excited to have opportunity to communicate to you through the computer while pressing it by myself.

I give glory back to the Almighty God because I am so blessed at this home! Auntie Katie is doing such a great job with us and she is so sweet. Not forgetting mummy Pauline has made time tables for activities like knitting, bead making, and so on.

Mummy Kristen i wish you happy merry Christmas. I would like to appreciate the total attorneys for their support.

Mummy Kelsey send my greetings to all of the family members and tell them i love them so much. We are missing you.
