Total Attorneys Releases 2011 Small Law Firm Technology Report

EON: (Enhanced Online News)–On July 29th, Total Attorneys released its 2011 Small Law Firm Technology Report.

The free report is based on survey responses from more than 300 small law firm and solo attorneys and addresses such issues as the use of digital file management systems, remote access and collaboration, use of mobile devices and other law practice management tools and processes.

The data indicates that clear changes are occurring in the legal profession, particularly with regard to the traditional brick and mortar law practice with standard business hours.

More than a quarter of attorneys surveyed said they worked from home, laptops or public computers every day, and more than 54% reported using a mobile device to read or send business email on at least a daily basis.

Remote access to calendars, contacts, firm accounts and even client files appears to be commonplace via both the Internet and mobile devices.

Despite the significant shift that has already taken place, more changes are in the works: just over half of attorneys not currently using a web-based practice management platform said they were very likely or somewhat likely to implement one in the coming year, and many also expected to make increased use of video conferencing.

The report provides solo and small law firm attorneys with an opportunity to learn where their firms fall on the legal technology curve, which tools and processes their colleagues are making effective use of and what the future holds for solos and small firm practitioners.

Total Attorneys President Kevin Chern will discuss the report and the state of legal technology generally with a panel of industry experts on his monthly radio show, Total Expert Radio, at noon CDT on August 10.

Listen at or call (347) 857-1419 to join the discussion.

The monthly radio show featuring legal industry and technology experts is just one of the free resources Total Attorneys makes available to help small law firms and solo attorneys grow their practices, run their law offices more efficiently and affordably and improve their bottom lines.
